301 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine N ora Orphanides has been a leader and mentor for many aspiring dancers since 1987. Ms. Orphanides was influenced to follow a creative arts career by her uncle, a dancer who performed with Fred Astaire. She started her career as a speech pathologist and soon embarked on a path toward dance in college. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the City University of New York in 1973, was a student at the Joffrey Ballet School from 1970 to 1975, and completed postgraduate work at the Princeton Ballet School in 1986. Ms. Orphanides began working in the membership department of M.M.A. in 1987 and remained there until 2002. Prior to this, she had been a faculty member at the Princeton Ballet School since 1983, later becoming trustee emeritus in 1992 and faculty emeritus in 2012. She is now a master teacher, as well as an advisor for the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in New York. She is the president and chief executive officer of Orphanides and Associates LLC, a position she has held since 2012. Ms. Orphanides was a cast member in the American Repertory Ballet’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” from 1985 to 1990, and appeared in Romeo and Juliet in 1995, 1996, and 2000. She is active in Seeds of Peace, an organization that sponsors fellows for their arts program and provides Middle Eastern and Jewish students with help toward their education. Her artistry and service earned her recognition as an honoree from the Princeton Ballet in 1999, the Edward R. and Irene D. Farley Community Stewardship Award from the Eden Institute Foundation in 2003, and the Eden Dreams Visionary Award in 2013.
