314 MILLENNIUM A s a communications educator, Michael Sheldon Porte was tasked with teaching journalism, broadcasting, television, radio, social media, marketing and public relations courses. Dr. Porte has over six decades of experience in his field, which contributed to his success. He began his career as an instructor at Woodrow Wilson Junior College from 1954 to 1955, and at his alma mater, Northwestern University, from 1956 to 1960. After leaving Northwestern, he made a home at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as an assistant professor, professor, co- professor of Italian literature and Jews in American film, and adjunct professor. He became professor emeritus in 2003. During his career, Dr. Porte served as a visiting professor at several institutions nationally and internationally, including the University of Southern California and Jiao Tong University. Certified in tai chi for arthritis, he has been an adjunct professor of tai chi and meditation at Cincinnati State University since 2005, and a tai chi instructor at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center since 2008. He is also the author of a manual called Technical Writers and “Media Coverage of Events Relating to the Swine Flu Program,” and was a co-editor for Mei Guo Jing Ji and Cinema Now. Dr. Porte earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism, a Master of Science in journalism, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He continues to be active in the field as a member of the Association for Business Communication, of which he was president in 1968. He has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Entertainment, Who’s Who in the Media and Communications and Who’s Who in the Midwest.
