317 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine R etired historian Edgar Raines has had much success in his field due to his interest in history, excellent teachers, hard work, and support from family and colleagues. Dr. Raines’ hard work and dedication has aided in him receiving the Harry E. Pratt Award in 1985, the Department Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2011, and the Army Historian Foundation Army from the History of US Army in 2002. He has been featured in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World. Dr. Raines has served the education and history fields for over three decades. From 1976 to 1979, he served as an assistant academy dean at Silver Lake College. After leaving the institution, he relocated to Washington, D.C., and obtained a position as a historian for the Office of Air Force History. One year later, he became a historian for the U.S. Army Center of Military History, where he remained from 1980 until his retirement in 2011, ending his career as a senior historian. Additionally, he has served as a historian for the Office of Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, Secretary of the Army Realignment Task Force and the Support to Chief of Staff Army Transition Team. Dr. Raines has contributed to his field as a co-author of many books and continues to be active in the field as a member of the American History Association, Organization of American Historians, the Society for Military History, the Society for History in the Federal Government and the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. His successful career is backed by his extensive education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and Master of Arts in history from Southern Illinois University in 1966 and 1968, respectively.
