319 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine A member of DECHEMA, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, GDMB, VDI-GVC Verein Deutscher Ingenieure, and the Swiss Process and Chemical Engineers, Lothar H. Reh has developed his expertise in process and reaction engineering. Currently, he is professor ETH in emeritus stage. Dr. Reh has proven to be a force in his field. He obtained a diploma in 1995 and a Ph.D. in 1961, both in chemical engineering fromTechnical University Karlsruhe (now known as Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). From 1951 to 1961, he worked as a research engineer for former Metallgesellschaft AG. Afterward, he moved to the daughter of the company, LURGI Chemie, where his responsibilities grew from head furnace design group to leader of the thermal process development department. From 1978 to 1985, he acted as director of research for the whole LURGI group. Following a short period as consultant in 1986, he became a professor for process engineering at ETH Zurich and imparted his knowledge to future process engineers. Besides serving as head of institute for process and cryogenic engineering, he established a laboratory for particle processing, has been a safety educator for chemical industry and co-promoted international 3R conferences in recycling. He served as head of the department of mechanical process engineering. Further, he initiated a research cooperation between the process engineering institutes of ETH Zurich and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1998, he retired from active service. A skilled innovator, he contributed remarkably to the development of Circulating Fluid Bed Calciners from laboratory to large industrial alumina plants. Dr. Reh is also co-inventor of low emission circulating fluid bed boilers. Besides 158 articles in scientific journals, his name is on 91 patents or patent applications in chemical, metallurgical energy and environmental processing. His many awards include the prestigious DECHEMA Award, the International Scientific Cooperation Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Friendship Award from SAFEA and the Award of P.R. China for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Lothar H. Reh, Ph.D. Process Engineering Educator, Consultant, Developer (Retired) Zumikon, Switzerland
