338 MILLENNIUM M ildred Clementina Sawyer is a retired real estate agent who has gained prominence in the industry. Ms. Sawyer began selling real estate at the suggestion of her husband, who explained to her that because they had children, delving into the field would allow her to have more flexibility. She took his advice and embarked on a career that led into selling mutual funds. While she had sold insurance, she really enjoyed the real estate and mutual funds aspect of her work. Ms. Sawyer began her professional career as a clerk for Prudential Insurance Company in Brockton, Mass., serving in that position for 10 years before obtaining another clerical position at Clark Brothers in Olean, N.Y. With the experience she gained there, she took on several typist positions in New Jersey and Rhode Island from 1958 to 1987. She began working as a real estate sales representative for JLC & Home Realty from 1984 to 1997 while also serving as an insurance sales agent for the Massachusetts Indemnity Life Insurance Company from 1984 to 1989. She later ended her career working as a security sales representative from 1986 to 1989. In addition to her career, Ms. Sawyer has given back to her community as secretary for the Cold Springs Harbor Heights Civic Association from 1961 to 1963, and as a member of Save All Foster’s Environmental from 1969 to 1987 and Students for a Democratic Society from 1970 to 1972. She has also added the title of author to her resume, penning titles such as “A Lifetime of Hints for Everyday Living” and “The Path Into Vietnam: An Historical Reflection,” as well as numerous poems. Although retired, Ms. Sawyer remains active today through her memberships, affiliations and connection to her community, which she has lived in since 1967.
