344 MILLENNIUM S tanley D. Scott is a collector of rare books in the fields of travel, discovery and early Americana. Mr. Scott actively supports George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia and donated a collection of early books, postage stamps, coins and medallions. He has also given numerous 18th and 19th-century portrait engravings, maps and prints to Fraunces Tavern Museum. He is honorary past president of Sons of the Revolution in the state of New York, which owns Frances Tavern Museum, where he served as co-chairman of its museum and art committee over a long period of years. Mr. Scott graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in 1950, after serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944 to 1946. He returned to his home in New York and worked as general manager of Alfred Scott Publishers, which has been in his family since 1879. He started his own S.D. Scott Printing Company in 1956 and produced fine-quality color lithography for top museums, art galleries, major corporations and banks. He purchased the building in which his company had been renting space in 1980. Mr. Scott decided to build a duplex penthouse in the 14-story building and continued to develop an upscale condominium. In addition to his experience in his own businesses, he served as a trustee and advisor of the American Numismatic Society. He donated his ancient Greek coins and historically important medallions to ANS for its research and educational mission. Mr. Scott served on the mayor’s Industry Advisory Commission and on the board of directors of Business Relocation Commission during a period of great changes in New York City. Together with his wife, Elizabeth, Mr. Scott has been an enthusiastic international traveler for decades. They are supportive members of a number of libraries, museums, foundations, historical societies, and art and music organizations. Stanley D.
