354 MILLENNIUM B eing an operations research specialist is no easy job, as it requires that individuals be not only smart, but also driven to help interpret information that assists with decision-making and policy formation in governmental affairs. Before embarking on her career with the federal government of the United States, Sandra K. Simpson went to college to obtain the tools necessary to take on the challenge and succeed in her field. Ms. Simpson received a bachelor’s degree in 1971 from the University of Vermont, as well as a Master of Public Administration in 1988 and a Master of Science in international relations in 1991, both from Troy State University. Taking responsibility head-on, Ms. Simpson obtained a job as an instructor and trainer at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Ala. In an effort to branch into other divisions of governmental affairs, she relocated to Germany for three years, where she became an assistant logistics officer. She returned to the United States for four years before settling in Germany, gaining a great deal of experience in Wiesbaden and rounding off her career as a defense logistics agent in 2015. Ms. Simpson is affiliated with several organizations, including the Women in Military Service to America Memorial, the Oxford Club, the USAREUR’s Retiree Council, and the Wiesbaden/Mainz Retiree Council, for which she has served as secretary since 1994. In addition to working for the United States government, Ms. Simpson served the Army from 1973 to 1993. Currently, she is a consultant for the United States government in Europe. Sandra K.
