508 MILLENNIUM T homas Tucker is a Charles G. Hetherington professor of math at Colgate University. Dr. Tucker has been imparting his mathematical genius to students at the institution since 1971. Throughout his tenure, he has maintained many positions, including assistant professor, professor of math and professor. He has also delved into the administrative side of academics as chairman of the math department, acting dean of the college and director of the division of national science. Along with serving at the university for nearly four decades, he has also held positions as visiting associate director of Dartmouth College, consultant for the Institute for Defense Analyses, and currently for the Educational Testing Service, as well as chairman of the Advanced Placement Calculus Committee for the College Board and president of the Calculus Consortium for Higher Education. As a member of the Mathematical Association of America, the American Mathematical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Dr. Tucker has been able to apply his knowledge as a co-author, editor and contributor to professional journals. He has also been the National Science Foundation grantee from 1976 to 1977, 1980 to 1982, 1986 to 1988, 1989, and 1990 to 1997. R ichard Carl Vie is a retired insurance company executive with over 40 years of experience in the field. During his career, Mr. Vie has held prestigious positions as president of Commonwealth Life Insurance Company, chairman of the board of directors and president of United Insurance Company, and chief executive officer, senior vice president, president and chairman of Unitrin, Inc. A former lieutenant in the Navy, he was the youngest aircraft commander in the Airborne Early Warning Barrier Squadron Pacific and was a survivor and co-pilot of the crash on Midway Island in which nine of 21 passengers passed away. He also served as chairman of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., co-chairman of the Chicago Navy Memorial at Navy Pier, and chairman and co-founder of Military Outreach USA. Mr. Vie sits on the boards of several institutions, including Valparaiso University, Concordia University and Concordia University Irvine. He has been featured in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Corporate America, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
