427 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine P hyllis Yampolsky is an innovative artist and painter with over five decades of experience whose passion for the arts was inspired by her mother, an admirer of people in music, art and education. At a young age, Ms. Yampolsky played the piano and was a self-taught painter. With the assistance of her piano teacher, she received a scholarship to the Palace of Fountainbleau, where she studied with master teacher Hans Hofmann, who taught her abstract expressionism and how to make space on a flat surface. In 1956, she began her professional career as the founder, director and teacher of Workshop Yampolsky. After serving in that position for 10 years, she became an art instructor for the 92nd Street Y, serving in that capacity for two years before becoming the founder and director of Hall of Issues. Throughout her career, Ms. Yampolsky continued to establish many artistic programs, acting as the creator and director of Portrait of Ten Towns, founder and officer of the Northeast Windham Council for the Arts, and co-founder and instructor of the Vermont College of Fine Arts. As an artist, Ms. Yampolsky has had her work featured in many one-woman shows at galleries and museums across Philadelphia, New York City and Vermont. Her work has also been exhibited in group shows at Park Place Gallery, the Brata Gallery and the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. Her experience and skills have led her to be featured in The New Yorker magazine and contribute articles to professional journals in the field. Ms. Yampolsky has been able to create a lane of her own as the founder and president of Friends of McCarren Park, Inc., a position she has held since 1988. As a yogi ordained by Swami Satchidananda, she also spearheads The 4th Chakra Company, the mission of which is to solve large and small issues through projects that invite people to have a good time.
