435 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine J oyce Charlene Atwood has been in the education field for over 50 years. As the current director of resource development at Ohio University, Ms. Atwood has proven that she possesses the skills necessary to succeed. Her career has consisted of teaching kindergarten through sixth-grade students and serving as a teacher leader for reading recovery in the Chillicothe City School District. With the experience gained from those roles, she was able to secure positions that aided in the progression of her career as an assistant principal of a middle school, administrative assistant and assistant superintendant for curriculum and instruction. Her dedication and contributions to the field have led to her being named to the Ross County Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993, and receiving the North Central Accreditation Award in 2002, the George Washington University Partnership Award in 2002, the Red Cross Hero Award in 2008, the Altrusa Mamie L. Bass Award in 2008, the Educator Emeritus Award in 2012, and recognition as Citizen of the Year in 2015. Ms. Atwood remains active in her community and is a member of educational and business-related organizations. W ith a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, a Master of Arts from Case Western Reserve University, and a certification to teach music, Charles Baker was well-equipped to impart his musical genius to his students. Mr. Baker began his career as a music teacher for Madison Local Schools in Mansfield, Ohio, serving in that position for a year before obtaining another teaching role in the Wickliffe City School District. Wanting the freedom to practice his art, he became a private clarinet instructor and freelance clarinet performer at the School of Fine Arts, a position he has held since 1969. In addition to his educational career, Mr. Baker has been principal clarinetist of the Lakeland Civic Orchestra since 1972. He is affiliated with many organizations, including the Ohio Music Education Association, the National Association of Music Educators, the Lake County Music Educators Association, the National Education Association, and the American Federation of Musicians. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the School of Fine Arts in 1992, was named to the city of Wickliffe’s Hall of Fame in 2005, and received a Recognition Service Award in 2009.
