Mr. Roback was inducted into the University of the Cumberlands Hall of Fame in 2004 and, in 2014, earned a Certificate of Appreciation from the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Atlanta. Outside of his athleticism, Mr. Roback is a noteworthy real estate professional and has been excelling as a realtor for The Realty House in Knoxville andMorristown, Tennessee, since 2014. Previously, he served as a realtor for Heath Shuler Realty in the early 1990s. Desiring to enter the field of real estate, particularly the motel business, decades ago, he is proud of the opportunities the profession has afforded him to help others. He is renowned in the business as “The Motel Man.” Looking toward the future, Mr. Roback intends to write a book on physical conditioning. He attributes his success to his ability to enjoy his life to the fullest. After graduating from high school, Zafer Roback qualified for the Army Intelligence School through the United States Army. Joining the military in 1959, he was assigned to South Korea, where he learned Judo, Jujitsu and weightlifting. As his interest in the field progressed, he soon relocated to Tokyo andOkinawa, Japan, until being assigned to Camp Kilmer in New Jersey. Departing from the military in 1962, he was granted several scholarships for Judo and attended the University of the Cumberlands, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical sciences in 1965. Shortly thereafter, he completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he also taught Judo and karate for 11 years. Notably, Mr. Roback has been coined “The Father of Judo” at the University of the Cumberlands. Over the course of his extensive career, he has been an eight-time participant in the Senior Olympics and has accrued more than 50 medals. In 2021 alone, he participated in 20 different events for the Senior Olympics.
