Sheriff Terrell was an usher for the Torch in Demorest, and has also been a member of the Georgia Board of Public Safety, to which he was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal of the State of Georgia in 2013. Additionally, he lent his expertise to the advisory board of North Georgia Technical College’s Criminal Justice Program and was a board member of the Mountain Judicial Circuit NCIS Team. Maintaining affiliating with the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, Sheriff Terrell is also a member of the National Sheriff’s Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Rotary International. He has earned myriad accolades, including the Chairman’s Award from the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce. Likewise, he was named an Outstanding Member of the Community by the Democratic Party and received a Lifesaving Award and Purple Heart Award from the U.S. State Representative of Georgia. From a formative age, Sheriff Joey Terrell always enjoyed making differences in other individuals’ lives, including those who were unable to stand up for themselves, and achieve justice on their behalf. As he grew older, he developed a reputation for being a selfless advocate, thereby introducing him to the fields of law enforcement and community involvement. Joining the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office in 1995, he first served as a deputy sheriff, patrol commander and jailor until 2008. Since 2008, he has excelled as the sheriff of Habersham County. Although his career has been suffusedwith highlights, Sheriff Terrell is especially proud of being elected as sheriff by the citizens of Habersham County, and he notes he that he not been run unopposed, yet always won the election significantly. He emphasizes that his greatest accomplishment is discovering that the citizens of his community have placed trust in him. Looking forward to his future and the future of Habersham County, he intends to continue serving his community.
