31 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT by her love for photography, and she served as a lecturer in photography at Eastern Montana College from 1983 to 1987. Thereafter, she served as an artist-in-residence in the City of Tempe, Arizona, from 1990 to 1992 while concurrently serving as the executive director of Artlink in Phoenix in 1991. From 1993 to 1994, Ms. Olmsted also excelled as a photo editor for The Current in Phoenix. Ms. Olmsted found considerable success as a gallery manager and assistant professor of art at the University of Nevada in Reno from 1994 to 1995 before joining the San Francisco Art Institute in California in 1996. For the following five years, she flourished as the chairperson of the printmaking department and an associate professor at the institution until attaining emerita status in 2011. Post-retirement, Ms. Olmsted continues to serve as a lecturer in photography at the University of California Santa Cruz. Impressively, Ms. Olmsted has been featured in several galleries, and her photography has been documented in such publications as Northern Lights, New Times and Quantum Metaphysics, among other outlets. She has displayed her photography in one-woman and group shows across the United States, such as at the Walter Mcbean Gallery, Eastern New Mexico University, the Szabo Fine Arts Gallery, the Tempe Art Center, Southern Illinois University and the Rockford College Gallery of Art, among other facilities. Impressively, she was invited to the UN Women’s Conference in Beijing and in Ecuador in 2000. Ms. Olmsted won the Best Production Award from the Theatre Critics Circle in 1998, which was preceded by the Eben Demarest Award in 1987 and an Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1984. She was elected a fellow of the Artists’ Fellowship, Inc., in New York City in 2005. Innately drawn to the visual arts from a formative age, Suzanne Olmsted desired to pursue the field of art as a professional career. In 1979, she received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Santa Cruz, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University in 1982.
