76 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION A retired sergeant major of the United States Army, Norman Ray Joy has exemplified aptitude inbothmilitary service and academia over the course of five decades. Since 2019, he has excelled as a United States history teacher at the Central Christian School in Hutchinson, Kansas, having formerly served Allen County Community College as an educator in architecture drawing, engineering drawing, woodworking and electrical blueprint reading. Earlier in his career, he was a high school woodworking and mechanical drawing teacher at Crescent Public Schools in Oklahoma and a power mechanics and welding teacher at Goddard Public Schools in Kansas. He also owned and operated a construction business, and is a licensed master electrician, master carpenter, painter, woodworker and cabinet designer. Alongside his primary vocation, Mr. Joy flourishes as a lay pastor for his local church, where he works with senior adults and serves as an inspiration to others. Additionally, he has thrived as a living historical performer, having maintained membership with the Kansas Alliance of Professional Historical Performers. He received a Bronze Star from the Army and holds a BS from Central State University and MS from Oklahoma State University. TEACHER Central Christian School Hutchinson, KS Drawn to teaching from a young age, Kathryn L. Koob commenced her academic career as a teacher at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Waverly, Iowa, in 1962. Moving onto Newton Public Schools in Iowa in 1964, she remained there until becoming a foreign service officer with the U.S. Information Agency in 1969. While serving with the U.S. Information Agency, Ms. Koob was notable for several educational ventures, from briefing Fulbright professors to aiding local exchange grantees in exploring America. Retiring from the U.S. Information Agency in 1996, she went on to serve Wartburg College as an adjunct professor in theater, religion and public speaking until her retirement in 2014. There, she also co-chaired the university’s national advisory board in the communications arts department. Ms. Koob holds a BA from Wartburg College, an MA from the University of Denver and an additional MA in religion from the Lutheran Theological Seminary. She also received two honorary LHD degrees from Gwynedd Mercy College and Upsala College. For her success, she received the Medal of Valor from the U.S. Department of State in 1981 and the Wartburg Medal fromWartburg College in 2006.
