242 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Interested in agriculture, plants and trees from a formative age, Dr. Donald L. Rockwood decided to pursue forestry during his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, receiving a BS in forestry in 1966. As his studies progressed, he was introduced to the research and genetic components of improving trees and received an MS in forest genetics from the aforementioned academic institution. Dr. Rockwood pursued further knowledge in the subject and received a PhD in forest genetics from North Carolina State University in 1972 and, subsequently, was employed by the University of Florida that same year. Serving as a professor of forestry at the University of Florida for more than 35 years, Dr. Rockwood attained the title of professor emeritus in their School of Forest Resources and Conservation in 2009. Concurrent to this role and through the present day, he has excelled as the president of Florida FGT LLC, his own consulting firm that provides advice and guidance to landowners in the forestry and agricultural industries. Leveraging his unique set of knowledge, Dr. Rockwood also advises property owners on how to use fast-growing trees for real world applications. Additionally, he has several patents for fast-growing, frostresilient Eucalyptus grandis cultivars. Notably, Dr. Rockwood has authored or co-authored more than 300 articles in professional journals and maintains membership with the Society of American Foresters, who bestowed upon him a Research Award for his exemplary efforts in the field. As a testament to his success, Dr. Rockwood has also twice earned the Teacher of the Year Award and once received the Distinguished Service Award, both from the School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rockwood intends to continue conducting research in his areas of expertise, particularly in the development of shortrotation woody crops.
