A certified HAM radio operator, he is also a basic airport safety and operations specialist and a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives. In 2020, he was certified as an international aerodrome certified employee through the International Association of Airport Executives. To remain abreast of developments in his fields, Mr. Rilling is also a member of the American Society for Public Administration, the Des Moines Radio Amateurs Association and Pi Alpha Alpha. Attributing his success to hard work, dedication and perseverance, Mr. Rilling advises that he has always chased his goals and dreams. Looking toward the future, he intends to work toward receiving a doctorate in public administration and, eventually, work as a research assistant and as a part-time educator at a university. Likewise, he would like to be promoted to an airport director for a small- to medium-sized airport. Zachary A. Rilling is a distinguished specialist in aviation with more than 10 years of experience to his credit. Drawn to the field of aviation from a formative age, he always enjoyed the allure and challenges of flight. In 2018, he received dual bachelor’s degrees in air traffic management from Daniel Webster College and in aviation/airway management and operations from Southern New Hampshire University. Most recently, in 2021, he earned an MPA from Drake University. Prior to earning his advanced degrees, Mr. Rilling served as a camp counselor for the Boy Scouts of America from 2012 to 2015. During his undergraduate studies, he was a ramp agent and passenger service agent for DAL Global Services, LLC from 2015 to 2018. Briefly serving as an airport operations officer for the City of Wichita, Kansas, in 2018, Mr. Rilling was hired by the Des Moines Airport Authority that same year. He first served as an airport operations center attendant for two years, then as an operations coordinator II between 2020 and 2021. Since 2021, he has excelled as an operations coordinator III.
