The link between people and occupation has existed since the Paleolithic period. Early in human history, tools were developed to aid in activities necessary for survival, such as hunting and gathering. From our ancestors’ evolution, the meaning of work was revolutionized. For the first time, humans worked collaboratively toward a common goal. Deeply rooted, fundamental needs for food, water and shelter necessitated labor; each individual was responsible for the survival of the settlement. Althoughwemay consider these practices tobe archaic prototypes, they translated into our modern understanding of labor.
