Following his receipt of his bachelor’s degree, Dr. Bakken excelled as a music director for various high schools until 2010, including the Milpitas Unified School District, Tracy Unified School District, Del Mar High School and Piedmont Hills High School. After serving as a school district music director, Dr. Bakken returned to the San Jose State University Marching Band, where he worked again as a front ensemble coordinator and arranger. Following this appointment, he served Evergreen School District as a music director between 2009 and 2021, as well as the executive director of the eponymously named David K. Bakken Creations since 2021. Alongside this path, he has also thrived as the music director for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church since 1987. While attending to his vocational pursuits, Dr. Bakken also received an MEd in curriculum and instruction from Concordia UniversityPortland in 2016 and an EdD from Concordia University Chicago in 2020. Furthermore, he holds a cross-cultural, language and academic development credential from National Hispanic University and a music credential from San Jose State University. Following the publication of his doctoral dissertation, titled “Precision, Sensitivity, Musicality: Creating Intrinsically Motivated Students through Journaling,” he has begun to write his first educational book. As a testament to his success, Dr. Bakken was a finalist for the Bank of America Scholarship for excellence in the field of music, as well as recognized as a two-time World Champion in Percussion Ensemble by Drum Corps International. Looking forward, he intends to continue serving in the music industry and create an online professorial service to teach music education to emerging educators. Dr. David K. Bakken has excelled in the field of music for more than 30 years, drawing upon an extensive education and a host of music-related professional endeavors.
