101 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Interested in women’s rights and women’s health issues beginning in the 1970s, Dr. Megan Seaholm commenced her academic endeavors at Austin College, from whom she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. Shortly thereafter, she earned a Master of Arts from Yale University in 1973. Deciding thereon to focus her efforts on women’s issues, she began serving as the director of clinic services for Planned Parenthood in Austin, Texas, in 1978 and went on to serve the Handbook of Texas through the Texas State Historical Association as a research associate from 1986 to 1989. During this time, Dr. Seaholm received a full scholarship to Rice University and obtained a PhD in 1988, having written her dissertation on women. Dr. Seaholm began serving the University of Texas at Austin in 1990, where she started as a lecturer for five years. Between 1998 and 2021, she also excelled as a historian and senior lecturer at the university, having simultaneously thrived as assistant dean of academic advising in the College of Liberal Arts from 2000 to 2004. Likewise, she was a member of the core curriculum task force in 2005, as well as a faculty college board member at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1991 to 1993. Overall, Dr. Seaholm has accrued 30 years of experience in the educational sector, focusing on women’s studies. Notably, Dr. Seaholm has authored several book reviews, including in the Journal of Southern History, Southwestern Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, the Medical Humanities Review and Annals of Science. Outside of her primary endeavors, she was a co-founder among three other women of the Austin Center for Battered Women in 1986. Additionally, she maintained membership with the Commission on the Status of Women and was a member of the citizen’s advisory board of the Austin Independent School District’s board of trustees. As a testament to her success, Dr. Seaholm was named Contributor of the Year by the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Texas in 2019. She also earned a Presidential Recognition Award and Captain Septimus Longscope Award from Rice University.
