As an army reservist, Dr. Fodor was a public affairs officer for the Eighth Medical Brigade prior to returning to active duty as assistant chief nurse and training officer for the 344th (1,000-bed) General Hospital at Fort Totten from 1981 to 1985. In 1985, she rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and, shortly thereafter, retired from the Army in 1986. Outside of her primary career, Dr. Fodor is a prolific artist whose work has been exhibited in New York, cross-country and overseas. Notably, her art was featured in the Ashkelon Museum in Israel. Dr. Fodor earned the Army’s Expert Field Medical Badge and, prior to retirement, was awarded the Army’s Meritorious Service Medal. She is also a two-time recipient of New York State’s Conspicuous Service Medal. Her current venture – DDD Studios – is an online shop with astonishing finds for the discerning collector. Dr. Mariana Duarte Fodor earned an RN diploma from the New York University-Bel levue School of Nursing in 1958. Commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Nurse Corps in 1967, she served on active duty in Japan, then remained in the Far East as an army reservist working for the Department of Defense (DOD) Schools of the Pacific from 1969 to 1971, during which time she penned a K-12 curriculum on health education and family life for the DOD Pacific Command. As a secondary school educator, Dr. Fodor taught earth and health sciences and French until 1995. She draws upon a BA (1972) in Romance languages and biology from Hunter College (where she later taught), an MEd from New York University (1975) and a PhD in health sciences from the University of Berkeley (2004). Upon her return from the Far East, Dr. Fodor’s civilian job was teaching practical nursing at New Rochelle High School from 1972 to 1974, and then as biomed coordinator at Mabel Dean Bacon and Lehman High Schools until 1981 and again from 1986 to 1995.
