During his longstanding tenure, he actively participated in the integration and merger of three information service organizations into one consolidated information technology organization. Mr. Menning notes that, although it was a tremendous undertaking, the results enabled the Mayo Clinic to develop and implement a paperless, electronic record in the early 2000s that was accessible to physicians, staff members and patients. Prior to delving into his career, Mr. Menning attended the United States Military Academy, where he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1962. Following his military service, he received a master’s degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 1970. Outside of his primary vocation, he has served on the advisory board of the Learning is Forever program at Rochester Community and Technical College, was a member of Rotary International, and is a life fellow and past chair of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. In addition to his focus on lifelong learning, his priorities are his family and service above self. EMERITUS VICE CHAIR OF INFORMATION SERVICES Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN Drawing upon inspiration from his father, an inventor and engineer, Larry Schotz enrolled in the Milwaukee School of Engineering, from which he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Following his receipt of his degree, he joined Sherwood Electronic Laboratories in Chicago, where he remained for one year before establishing his own business in 1974. During the course of his career, Mr. Schotz desired to invent electronics that could be locally produced and affordable; he eventually invented the microprocessor-controlled FM tuner. He also holds several patents, including for a digital wireless speaker system, an analog spread spectrum wireless speaker system, a telephone controller apparatus and an in-line switchable audio enhancement device for a compact disc adapter, among other devices. Following his departure from the manufacturing industry, Mr. Schotz founded several engineering companies, such as L&S Compliance in 1990 and LS Research LLC in 1980. Since 2006, he has excelled as the chief executive officer of L&M Research LLC. Among his several achievements in technology, he is especially proud of developing the very first microprocessor-controlled FM tuner when he was only 25 years old.
