234 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Inherently interested in holistic treatments, due in part to the influence of her family that advocated for natural food products, Dr. Ella M. McElwee became a registered nurse in 1962. After spending several years in the nursing field, she furthered her education with a doctorate in natural sciences, as well as additional advanced degrees in naturopathy and homeopathy. Over the course of her longstanding career, Dr. McElwee has specialized in holistic treatments for patients’ illnesses that integrate the mind and body. In 1985, Dr. McElwee founded Health By Choice, Inc., in New Enterprise, Pennsylvania. They also have an additional location in Manheim, Pennsylvania. Health By Choice is a fully serviced chiropractic center that boasts several clinical health practitioners and naturopathic and homeopathic physicians. Their services include such procedures as thermography, hair analysis, stress assessment, body mass analysis, acoustic cardiography, iridology, reflexology and massages, among other services. Alongside this role, Dr. McElwee also founded Health By Choice Education and Research, Inc., which is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to promoting knowledge to help other health care professionals promote wellness through naturopathic approaches to mind and body healing. Likewise, Dr. McElwee currently excels as the district director for Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania’s District 5, as well as a chapter leader of the Weston A. Price Foundation and a study group leader for the National Center for Homeopathy. As a testament to her success in the field of holistic medicine, she was honored with the Athena National Leadership Award from the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce in 2019. That same year, she was named Woman of the Year by Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania, a title of which she also earned in 2021. Looking toward the future, Dr. McElwee intends to continue witnessing the growth and success of Health By Choice. Additionally, she would like to continue researching natural health remedies and validating her findings through the publication of her research in scientific journals. DR. ELLA M.
