294 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY During high school, Dr. Megan M. Boothby’s interest in medicine was piqued after taking an introductory college-level chemistry course. Particularly interested in pharmacy science, she earned a PharmD from the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati in 2019. Concurrently, she served appointments as a pharmacy technician and intern with Walton Pharmacy, Ludlow Pharmacy and the Cincinnati VA Medical Center between 2014 to 2019. A board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, Dr. Boothby is currently pursuing board certification as a cardiology pharmacist. Since 2021, Dr. Boothby has served the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital as a heart failure stewardship clinical pharmacist, in which she provides medication consultation for patients admitted to the hospital for heart failure. She also provides assistance when her patients cannot afford required, and often life-saving, medication. Earlier, she was a postgraduate acute care pharmacy resident and second-year cardiology pharmacy resident beginning in 2019. Looking toward the future, Dr. Boothby intends to participate in the recruitment of more pharmacy specialists to expand the services offered at Cone Health, as well as advance to a leadership position in the pharmacy residency program. HEART FAILURE STEWARDSHIP CLINICAL PHARMACIST Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Greensboro, NC Driven to enter the sciences, Dr. Carl William Kohls attended the University of Notre Dame between 1949 and 1951, where he initially studied physics. Deciding thereafter to pursue the topic of mathematics instead, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester with a BA in mathematics in 1953. From there, he enrolled in Purdue University, earning an MS and a PhD in mathematics in 1955 and 1957, respectively. He served as a teaching assistant for two years at Purdue University and was then honored with fellowships to further his research. Following his receipt of his doctorate, Dr. Kohls was an instructor at Columbia University for one year before joining the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as an assistant professor until 1960. After a year as a visitor at the University of Rochester, he joined the faculty at Syracuse University, where he served as an assistant professor, associate professor and full professor between 1961 and 1991. In 1991, he earned the distinction of professor emeritus. Dr. Kohls has authored and co-authored more than 20 research papers that have been published in scientific journals across the nation and maintains membership with the American Mathematical Society.
