315 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TRANSPORTATION Supported by a degree in civil engineering from the University of California Los Angeles, Edwin P. Mah desired to leverage his advanced education to benefit his community first-hand. First serving as a civil engineer for the railroad system for 18 years, he has excelled as a transportation engineer for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for nearly 25 years. During his pronounced career, Mr. Mah participated in one of Caltrans’ largest highway projects throughout Southern California, which had separated all major routes to allow for smoother traffic flow. He has thoroughly enjoyed designing better structures for bridges and buildings for all civilians. Earlier in life, Mr. Mah immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. As a non-English speaking student, he committed himself to learning and mastering the English language while pursuing his collegiate studies. As such, he witnessed the struggle of the Chinese community in California due to the language barrier in local communities and sought to make a difference. Outside of his primary vocational efforts, Mr. Mah is a passionate community leader who has aided new immigrants in obtaining jobs and becoming financially stable in America. Particularly, he enjoys teaching young adults and teenagers the complexities and values of civil engineering. To this end, Mr. Mah is a member and past president of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and has served as president of various organizations in Chinese populations in Southern California. He attributes his immense success to his diligent work ethic, perseverance and sense of humility. In light of his outstanding undertakings, he was the recipient of the Structural Engineers Annual Award. However, he cites a career highlight to be his profession of servicing the public and the State of California. Looking toward the future, Mr. Mah intends to continue giving back to his community, especially within the realms of homelessness and the education of young adults.
