Likewise, the Lions Club International bestowed upon him the 2009 Melvin Jones Fellow Award – one of the most prestigious honors that is offered by the club. A distinguished former educator and longstanding author, John E. “Jay Dubya” Wiessner is recognized extensively for his writing prowess, as well as his aptitude for English education. For more than 30 years until his retirement in 1999, he taught English at Hammonton Public Schools in Hammonton, New Jersey, beginning in 1965. While teaching in Hammonton, he served the Hammonton Education Association in a myriad of roles, such as a building representative, teachers’ head negotiator and vice president. During this tenure, he also exemplified diversity in his career path, including serving as the co-owner of Dealers Choice Amusement Arcade in Ocean City, Maryland, and of New Horizon Shop in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, between 1967 and 1981. Moreover, Mr. Wiessner is a past summer fieldmanager for the Atlantic Blueberry Company. Outside of his educational and entrepreneurial endeavors, Mr. Wiessner has authored more than 55 books under the penname Jay Dubya.
