Throughout her career, Dr. Miranda has always exhibited passion and enthusiasm for teaching, and she has particularly enjoyed helping her students achieve their own academic and personal goals. She has maintained active affiliation with a number of industry-specific organizations, such as the International Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), the Association for Supervision andCurriculumDevelopment, and the Puerto Rico Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Puerto Rico TESOL). Notably, she has served the Puerto Rico TESOL as president of the Eastern chapter since 2020. Looking toward the future of her life and career, Dr. Miranda intends to continue working in a leadership capacity, as well as further her own education by completing additional coursework in professional development. Likewise, she would like to travel. Since 2008, Dr. Carmen Miranda has excelled as an assistant professor at Universidad Ana G. Mendez in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During this tenure, she has also supported the university’s Writing Center andhas further been activewithuniversitylevel organizations that aid local communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier in her career, Dr. Miranda taught in the public school system for more than 30 years, during which time she taught grade school, middle school and high school classes. For her achievements in public education, she was honored as Teacher of the Year, which she cites as a career highlight. Prior to obtaining her current vocational positions, Dr. Miranda pursued a formal education at Universidad de Puerto Rico, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary education. Shortly thereafter, she attended Universidad Ana G. Mendez and received a master’s degree in English as a second language. After accruing several years of career experience, Dr. Miranda decided to return to her own academic efforts and obtained an EdD in curriculum instruction from Capella University at the age of 62.
