Dr. Omekanda holds over 80 patents and was inducted into the Delphi InnovationHall of Fame in 2006. Authoring over 60 international publications in referred journals, he was honored with the 2021 Taguchi Excellence Award for his paper on electrical machines, which was presented at the 2021 International Conference on Robust Quality Engineering in Tokyo. Moreover, he received the 2014 Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award. Dr. Omekanda is vice chair of the governing board of the IEEE Smart Village, member of the IEEE ECCE Conference Steering Committee, secretary of the IEEE PES/IAS PowerAfrica Conference Steering Committee, and vice chair of the Project Development Committee of IEEE Smart Village. He intends to take part in the revolution of vehicle electrification, which proposes to replace thermal combustion engines with electric machines in the transportation sector. Drawing upon over 30 years of experience, Dr. Avoki Michel Omekanda, fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is distinguished for his specializations in the design/ analysis/control of electric machines, actuators, electromagnetic sensors, robust engineering, acoustics, vibration and computation of electromagnetic fields. Since 2010, he has been a research engineer for General Motors Global R&D Center. Earlier, he served in the same capacity at GM from 1995 to 1999, Delphi Research Laboratories from 1999 to 2005 and Delphi-Powertrain Systems from 2005 to 2010. Additionally, he was a researcher and assistant professor at Faculté Polytechnique de Mons. Dr. Omekanda received a BS in engineering from Faculté Polytechnique de Mons and a PhD in electrical engineering. He also holds a master’s degree in development practice from Regis University and a BS in physics from Mohammed V University. He is a professor of electrical engineering at ISTA/Kinshasa University in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
