VETS, in particular, provides student veterans opportunities to engage in collegiate coursework while focusing on such topics as poetry, military identity, recognition of and coping with childhood trauma, and cultural differences overseas. life. Deeply passionate about this work, he has dedicated himself to ensuring that each veteran’s transition is as smooth as possible. The Veteran and Military Resource Center is, notably, considered a pillar of the Ocean County community in New Jersey, which imports several programs to allow veterans to become excellent civil servants. Under his leadership, Mr. Luurtsema ensures that all students who have enlisted in the military will transition back into society through guided and holistic approaches. Through his work, he also confirms to service members that they have valuable support options and resources. Most recently, Mr. Luurtsema earned amaster’s degree in organizational leadership in project management from Colorado State University Global in 2022. Civically involved outside of his primary vocation, he previously served as a sponsor mentor for the ETS Sponsorship Program, as well as served as a leadership mentor for the National Society of Leadership and Success, a program director for Green Zone Training at Ocean County College and a student advisor for Student Veterans of America. He was also a student president with the Stockton University Student Veteran Organization. In light of his outstanding feats, Mr. Luurtsema most recently earned the New Jersey Governor’s Value Veterans Award in 2022, having previously received the GI Job Veteran Champion of Higher Education award in 2021. Likewise, he was honored with recognition from the United States Department of Education for distinguished Ocean County College as a “center of excellence for veteran student success.” Impressively, this accolade is awarded to only 12 institutions of higher education across the nation.
