194 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine As a child, UncleDan Firehawk-Cogan Taylor enjoyed shooting, and while attending grade school, he joined the Boy Scouts, earnning his Marksmanship Merit Badge and Mile Swim and Scout Lifeguard awards. He became an Eagle Scout, German interpreter and troop Bugler and attended national instructor training at Philmont Scout Ranch. During high school, he became a threesport letterman who held the school record in the discus throw. Following graduation, he served the Oregon Department of Forestry before enrolling at Oregon State University, where he joined Delta Chi. He subsequently served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician, and after his discharge, spent the next eight years as an auto parts procurement specialist, attended college part-time on the G.I. Bill and worked as a security guard. Mr. Taylor joined the U.S. Postal Service and finished his AS in general studies at Portland Community College. At the USPS, he became an on-the-job instructor, assistant supervisor, clerk and dock worker. He also joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was certified as an instructor, vessel examiner, crewman and vessel operator; elected Flotilla Commander; and appointed a GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY district staff officer. He received the Auxiliary Operational Award. Mr. Taylor holds life memberships with the National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute and National Postal Mailhandler’s Union. He is an honorary member of the National, Oregon, Utah and Florida Sheriff’s Associations. He is certified as an instructor for home firearm safety and basic pistol, and a range safety officer certified by the National Rifle Association and firearms instructor by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification. Mr. Taylor started R.U.D.E. Music (Rockin’ Uncle Dan Enterprises), performing shows for events and serving live sound shows as full charge stage manager and sound reinforcement technician. He also threw the shotput and discus in the Nike World Masters Games in Eugene, Oregon, and the first State Games of the United States in St. Louis.
