92 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Supported by a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Adelaide in his native Australia, Dr. Geoffrey J. Iverson subsequently immigrated to the United States, where he studied at New York University. During his time spent at New York University, he was trained in mathematical psychology during the mid-1970s, at which point he was formally introduced to signal detection theory. From this moment forward, Dr. Iverson desired to extend his knowledge of the field to students who shared the same interests and passions. First commencing his career with Northwestern University, Dr. Iverson relocated to California, where he joined the University of California Irvine. Excelling as a professor of cognitive sciences in their School of Social Sciences for 30 years, he attained emeritus status in 2016. During his tenure at the University of California Irvine, he authored and co-authored a myriad of texts, including books and articles to professional journals. Notably, he authored “Thurstonian Psychophysics: Case III” in the Journal of Mathematical Psychology in 1987, as well as co-authored “Statistical Issues in Measurement” in Mathematical Social Sciences in 1985. Likewise, Dr. Iverson has been published in major journals in both the fields of physics and cognitive science, such as the Journal of the Optical Society of America and the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. For his efforts, he was presented with a Best Paper Award. To remain abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Iverson served on the board and as an editor for the Journal of Mathematical Psychology and is a member of the Mathematical Association of America. Outside of his primary endeavors, he supports various forest and wildlife conservation organizations, as well as several women’s rights initiatives. Currently, Dr. Iverson is in the process of researching signal detection theory, which is widely used in psychophysical research. He is attempting to rewrite the theory and bring it up to date in contemporary society. Looking forward, he intends to continue researching and writing. DR. GEOFFREY J.
