95 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine second lieutenant. As his career in the military advanced, he served as an operations planner at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, as well as a strategic planner and energy economist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He advanced through the grades, whereupon he retired from the Air Force in 1979 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his military tenure, Dr. King also served as an assistant professor of economics at the United States Air Force Academy and received an MS in economics from South Dakota State University in 1971. He subsequently obtained a PhD in economics from the University of Colorado in 1977. Following his departure from the military, Dr. King served as an associate professor of economics at the Air Force Institute of Technology from 1979 to 1982 and a full professor of economics at Baylor University from 1982 to 1995. He ultimately retired fully from his profession in 2006, having spent the previous 11 years as dean of the School of Business and Economics at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina beginning in 1995. Notably, Dr. King was a fellow of the American Council of Education, a member of the American Economic Association, and a board member and board president of the National Economic Association. He has contributed a myriad of articles to professional journals and has contributed to the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Likewise, he sat on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries America, Inc., the board of regents at Wartburg College, and was chair of the board of commissioners for the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem. Looking toward the future, Dr. King intends to travel extensively in his retirement and eventually witness his youngest grandson graduate from college. While pursuing his undergraduate degree at Tuskegee University, Dr. Arthur Thomas King became interested in joining the military.
