Dodson Jr. pursued three different paths throughout his career: aerospace engineering, dentistry and entrepreneurship. Receiving a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and psychology from the University of Richmond in 1979 and a Bachelor of Science in aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Arizona in 1983, Dr. Dodson served as an aerospace engineer for Pratt & Whitney and Hughes Aircraft Company for a number of years before the industry declined. Deciding thereafter to pursue health care, Dr. Dodson enrolled in the University of Florida, fromwhich he received a DMD in 1998. He also earned an advanced certificate in endodontics from New York University in 2000. Since receiving his certificate and being licensed to practice in Virginia, he has excelled as an endodontist with Dodson & Royzenblat Endodontics in Newport News, Virginia. Alongside this pursuit, he has also been the owner and developer of 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery in Williamsburg, Virginia, since 2014. He was ultimately inspired to leverage his entrepreneurial skills after participating in a reenactment titled Blackbeard’s Crew, through which he researched the history of spirits in America. He presently sits on the board of S.P.I.R.I.T.S., a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the history of American distilleries. Among his many achievements, Dr. Dodson is especially proud of successfully transitioning career paths from aerospace engineering to dentistry. Since the inception of his endodontics business, it has grown to generate $6 million on an annual basis and is recognized as one of the most premier endodontic practices across the world. Looking forward, he intends to establish an additional office in Virginia with four more specialists. As a testament to his success, Dr. Dodson was named a Top Dentist by the Consumers Research Council of America every year between 2003 and 2021. He maintains membership with the American Dental Association and the American Association of Endodontists, as well as the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.
