Decatur, GA At the commencement of her career in 1977, Rita Tucker Williams was appointed as an elementary school teacher in the State of California. During her tenure as an educator, she enjoyed the components of reading, writing and speaking, having often performed at local churches and poetry readings. Possessing an innate aptitude for the written word and oration, she shortly realized that she could naturally apply her talents in a legal capacity. To this end, Ms. Williams desired to defend individuals from injustice and become a voice for the voiceless. Following several years of teaching, Ms. Williams enrolled at the Emory University School of Law, receiving a JD and being admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1987. Drawing upon a prior Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Spelman College and a Master of Arts in educational psychology from the University of Michigan, Ms. Williams leveraged her advanced degrees to acquire a position as a law associate for Alston & Bird LLP, serving the law firm for two years. During 1990, Ms. Williams desired to take a step further in her career and establish her own law firm. Thus, she founded the Law Firm of Williams & Associates, P.C., in Decatur, Georgia, and quickly escalated to become one of the most premier legal resources in the State of Georgia. Specializing in personal injury law, Ms. Williams also holds extensive expertise in social security law, criminal law and product liability law. Among the notable moments of her career, she is especially proud of and humbled by a case in 2002 inwhich she litigated against Hyundai Motor America on behalf of a family who experienced a devastating car accident. The collision resulted in the loss of a life of one child and injuries to two other children. Through Ms. Williams’ victorious efforts and compassion for the case, Hyundai Motor America implemented new measures by which to enhance the effectiveness of seatbelts to prevent future tragedies. Alongside her primary roles as chief executive officer and attorney at the Law Firm of Williams & Associates, Ms. Williams has also served as a mentor for young, emerging lawyers, a position appointed to her through the Supreme Court of Georgia.
