31 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT A natural born entertainer from a formative age, Catherine Jean Callovino Barbour grew up in Washington, D.C., and always knew she wanted to enter the creative arts. Upon relocating to Manhattan when she got older, she earned a certificate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1960, where she later served as an instructor and director to acting students between 1963 and 1971. During this time, Ms. Barbour joined the American Mime Theatre in New York City, where she has excelled since 1965 as a performer, teacher and director. Notably, the American Mime Theatre is the oldest continuing professional mime company across the United States. Concurrent to her positions at the American Mime Theatre, Ms. Barbour lent her passion and expertise to various other professional endeavors. From 1973 to 1974, she served as an administrative assistant of International Mimes and Pantomimists and taught an American Mime class at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts from 2006 to 2007. All the while, Ms. Barbour continued to perform across the country in various capacities inside and outside of the AmericanMime Theatre. Impressively, she appeared on “TheToday Show” and “Asayan,”which is a former Tokyo-based talent show. Furthermore, Ms. Barbour edited six video documentaries and produced and directed “American Mime Performance Demonstration” at the Cooper Union. Ms. Barbour is especially proud of writing on the evolution of American Mime teaching methodologies, in which she has enjoyed teaching others the significance of living and breathing a creative life. To this end, Ms. Barbour is also a talented painter whose work can be found in exhibits across several venues in New York City, such as the National Arts Club and Sauander-O’Reilley Galleries. Ms. Barbour holds a bachelor’s degree from Marymount Manhattan College and an MFA in theater design from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. For her success, she has been recognized with a myriad of accolades. She was notably honored with the Charlies Jehlinger Award from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and a Merit Award from the Art Students League of New York.
