72 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION CHI YU HU, PHD PROFESSOR EMERITUS California State University, Long Beach Huntington Beach, CA Drawing upon more than 40 years of expertise in physics and academia, Dr. Chi Yu Hu is now recognized as a professor emeritus of physics at California State University, Long Beach, where she served in a myriad of capacities. Joining California State University, Long Beach as an assistant professor in 1963, she maintained that role until 1969. From there, she was promoted to the rank of associate professor and, subsequently, full professor in 1972, where she remained until attaining emeritus status in 2006. During her tenure, she also excelled as a National Science Foundation visiting professor at the University of California Los Angeles between 1988 and 1990. She commenced her career in 1962 as a research associate at St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York, where she worked for one year. To prepare for her lauded career, Dr. Hu pursued a formal education at National Taiwan University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1955. Subsequently, she received a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1962 following her immigration to the United States from China. Notably, she became a naturalized American citizen in 1974. She is also the proud mother of four children: Marica, Mark, Albert and Han Chin. She also has two grandsons, Kevin and David. She currently resides in Huntington Beach, California. Demonstrating versatility in her profession, Dr. Hu has contributed several articles to professional journals, as well as scientific papers to various conferences and symposia. She has conducted thorough research in clean air and nuclear fusion, which has further been documented and presented before fellow scholars. A grantee of the National Science Foundation for a cumulative 28 years, Dr. Hu has also earned grants from the California State University Long Beach Foundation and the United States Department of Energy. Additionally, Dr. Hu maintains active affiliation with the American Physical Society. Dr. Hu entered her field in light of her passion for the work, as well as her sense of duty and responsibility.
