107 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION During his high school years in Somerset, Kentucky, Dr. Kyle D. Wallace was attracted to the subjects of mathematics and accounting. He majored in both mathematics and accounting as an undergraduate student at Eastern Kentucky University. He earned a master’s degree and a PhD from Vanderbilt University. In 1970, he joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Western Kentucky University. As he advanced through the academic ranks, Dr. Wallace was gratified by success realized by talented and motivated students. Prior to his early/ optional retirement, he also served in an administrative role as Director of the Academic Retention and Advising Center. In this role, he served as a member of a statewide committee for the Commonwealth of Kentucky that developed transfer agreements for both general education and program specific majors and minors for all public institutions within the Commonwealth. After electing early retirement in 1998, Dr. Wallace served a brief period as interim department head for the Department of Mathematics until a fulltime head could be selected for the department. A past member of both the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), Dr. Wallace remains an active member of MAA. He was honored to be elected to a term as Chairman of the Kentucky Section of MAA, as well as a term as Governor for the Kentucky Section of MAA. Whether it be the achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth or being commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1998, Dr. Wallace recognizes the honors to be representative of the individuals and groups that have provided enrichment to his pathway through life. He and his wife, Lloyd Ann Ramsey Wallace, have two sons and five grandchildren. In the coming years, he hopes to continue to enjoy watching sporting events, the fellowship of church members, and hobbies such as golf. KYLE D.
