225 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Dr. Amballur “Joe” David John decided to enter the field of academic medicine, not only to teach others the intricacies of health care, but to also provide care for ill patients. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Harvard University in 1982, he went on to receive anMD fromtheNewYorkMedical College in1990. Thereafter, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Framingham Union Hospital in 1994, as well as an additional residency in anesthesia and critical care at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in 2000. The following year, he completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital. Driven to help patients and medical students, Dr. John has excelled as an assistant professor of anesthesia and critical care medicine at the acclaimed Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine since 1997. Alongside this role, he is also the director of student education within the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, having formerly served Harvard Medical School as an instructor. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he has authored or co-authored four books, including “Critical Care Protocols,” “Critical Care Survival Kit,” “Anesthesia Essential Clinical Updates” and “Anesthesia Topical Updates.” Likewise, Dr. John has sat on the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine. To remain abreast of developments in health care, Dr. John maintains membership with the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesia, the American Society of Anesthesia, the Society of Critical Care, the American Chemists Society, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. To attest to his success, he was named a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in London and among the Leading Physicians in the World in 2013. Likewise, he was named a Top Doctor and Top Anesthesiologist in Maryland in 2020, having also been recognized among America’s Top Physicians since 2003. Dr. John attributes his success to the opportunities he has leveraged throughout his career and the mentorship of several doctors, such as Dr. Warren Zapol, Dr. Edward Miller and Dr. Frederick Seiber. Looking forward, he intends to experience continued growth in his career.
