227 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS From a young age, Dr. Christopher J. Leet was interested in the sciences. However, his interest in medicine was solidified when he was 12 years old upon undergoing a surgical procedure. Receiving a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, with a minor in biology, from George Washington University, he subsequently earned an MD from the Medical College of Georgia in 1972. Thereafter, he completed an internal medicine residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 1975, as well as a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at George Washington University in 1977. He is board certified in cardiology by the American College of Cardiology. Now retired since 2012, Dr. Leet served as the owner of Prince William Cardiology Associates for several decades, where he also excelled as chief of cardiology and chief of the intensive care unit. He was inspired to establish the cardiac rehabilitation program following his own cardiac arrest at the age of 50, where he diagnosed himself while watching his own monitors in the emergency room. Notably, Dr. Leet utilized alternative treatments, such as yoga and meditation, for his recovery, which was covered by The Washington Post and PBS News. Although he has achieved much success, Dr. Leet is especially proud of establishing a cardiac program in a small hospital in Budapest through a grant from the USAID. The project was initiated following the dissolution of the Iron Curtain in Eastern Europe, and Dr. Leet worked directly with other doctors and nurses to set up the program and upgrade cardiac facilities. Dr. Leet is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and was named to Top Doctors byWashingtonianMagazine for 12 consecutive years. Earlier in his career, he served Novant Health UVA Health System and the Prince William Medical Center, as well as his own private cardiology practice for eight years. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue enjoying his retirement. CHRISTOPHER J. LEET, MD, FACC CARDIOLOGIST (RETIRED) Prince William Cardiology Associates Catharpin, VA
