Although he has achieved many highlights in his career, Monsignor Boddie is especially proud to be recognized as the very first African American to be ordained a priest in the State of Florida. He attributes his success to his faith in Jesus Christ, who has provided Monsignor Boddie with the strength and grace to help others – particularly underprivileged individuals in society. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue his work in the Christ the King Catholic Church until his eventual retirement, as well as continue serving his community through various initiatives and charities. He would like to remain an active member of his diocese and aid others in their journeys. Recently designated a Monsignor as a Chaplain to Pope Francis in 2021, Monsignor James R. Boddie Jr. has excelled as a pastor for the Christ the King Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida, for nearly 10 years. Previously serving as the pastor of St. Catherine of Siena in Orange Park, Florida, for 12 fruitful years, he draws upon a Master of Theology and a Master of Divinity from Saint Vincent de Paul Major Seminary, degrees he obtained in 1978. He was subsequently ordained as a priest the same year. Noting that he felt a calling to priesthood when he was just in the third grade, Monsignor Boddie attended a religious private school and was inspired by his priests. Outside of his primary endeavors, he has been a former member of the Mary L. Singleton Foundation, Inc., and is a current member of the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment. Likewise, Monsignor Boddie has sat as a board member for the Warren P.
