In 2022, he was awarded the Service Medal of the Order of St. John, with three clasps recognizing 25 years of service. Among his career achievements, Dr. Ragen is especially proud of being the editor of a scholarly journal paper on language and literature, a role in which he served between 1992 and 2008. Impressively, he also established scholarships and fellowships at Pomona College, Princeton University, Fontbonne University and William Penn University, as well as taught survey courses to students. Currently, Dr. Ragen is working on revisions of traditional hymns in modern hymnals. He has been profiled in Who’s Who in the Midwest, was featured in The Wall Street Journal and was highlighted in Hemispheres Magazine. work in the field, he was the recipient of the Design Award: The Best Heraldic Design of the Year from the American Heraldry Society in 2009. Additionally, Dr. Ragen has lent considerable time and expertise to civic and charitable endeavors. A trustee of Fontbonne University and a board member of the Field House Museum and St. Louis Cathedral Concerts, he has volunteered more than 300 hours to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Moreover, he is a coordinator of volunteer groups at the St. Louis Fisher House and the St. Louis coordinator and volunteer with the in-home visitor program of the St. John’s Volunteer Corps, which is initiated through the St. Louis VA Medical Center. To remain abreast of developments in his areas of interest, Dr. Ragen maintains affiliation with the Modern Language Association, the American Recorder Society, the Conference on Christianity and Literature, and the Country Dance and Song
