126 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Hailing from a family of educators, Dr. Barbara J. Modisette desired to spearhead a career in education in her own right. She first earned an associate degree from Kilgore College in 1959 and went on to matriculate at Stephen F. Austin State University, where she attained a BS in elementary education in 1962, an MEd in guidance and counseling in 1970, and anEdD, with aminor in administration andpsychology, in 1983. Dr. Modisette is also a licensed specialist in school psychology. At the inception of her career, Dr. Modisette was a classroom teacher and educational diagnostician from 1965 to 1975 and an education counselor from 1975 to 1987. For the following two years, she served as a principal at a junior high school before working as a full-time consultant through the Education Service Center from 1988 to 1994. Continuing to progress in her field, she has been a school psychologist, counselor supervisor and public school consultant since 2001, as well as an adjunct professor at LeTourneau University since 2004. Upon reflection, Dr. Modisette attributes her professional success to God and the many mentors she has had throughout her life. Among her mentors, she credits her mother, Naomi Davis, who inspired her to go into counseling, and Martha Hunt, the director appointed to serve on Gregg County Co-op, along with other mentors such as Anne Davis, Jean Cox and Paul Stroud. However, her greatest success is seeing a child learn and grow. She feels blessed to work with graduate students as they prepare for careers as counselors. To remain abreast of developments in her industry, Dr. Modisettemaintains membership with the American Psychological Association, American Psychotherapy Association, American Board of School Neuropsychologists, American Counseling Association, American Association of Sports Psychology and National Association of School Psychologists. She is also a member of the Texas Association of School Psychologists, Texas Counseling Association, Texas Association of School Psychologists, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. Civically, she is active with the Kilgore College Rangerettes, LongviewWomen’s Commission and Longview Symphonic Band. DR. BARBARA J.
