112 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Supported by over 50 years of excellence in adult and special education, Dr. Susan Lytle Gilmore has excelled as the director of adult education and administrator at the A. WarrenMcClaskey Adult Center in the Sacramento City Unified School District since 2010. First joining the Sacramento City Unified School District in 1979, Dr. Gilmore served in a myriad of leadership roles, including as the supervisor of designated instruction and services for special education, the supervisor of special education and the administrative specialist for special education. Thereafter, Dr. Gilmore was promoted to the rank of principal of the A. Warren McClaskey Adult Center in 1992 and again in 2000. Punctuating these appointments, she also served as the principal of the Fremont School for Adults and the interim assistant superintendent of adult education. Congruent to her current positions, Dr. Gilmore also excels as the director of the Charlies A. Jones Career and Education Center. Earlier in her career, she was an assistant professor, professor and coordinator of the Speech and Hearing Clinic at Louisiana State University and a part-time speech-language pathologist at the Mohican School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Likewise, Dr. Gilmore thrived as a part-time lecturer and clinic supervisor at the University of the Pacific and a lecturer at the University of California Davis. To prepare for her career, Dr. Gilmore pursued a formal education at the University of the Pacific, where she earned a BA and anMA in speech-language pathology in 1964 and 1965, respectively. From there, she received a PhD in speech-language pathology from Ohio University in 1968 and, years later, an administrative credential fromCalifornia State University, Sacramento in 1980. Decorated with several accolades, Dr. Gilmore received many awards from the California Council for Adult Education, such as the 2019 Donald A. McCune Collaborative Award, 2014 George C. Mann Distinguished Service Award, 2005 Robert W. Rupert Award and 2004 Camille Wickland Meritorious Service Award. Likewise, she was honored with the 2008 Superintendent’s Personal Excellence Award from the Sacramento City Unified School District and 1985 Outstanding Achievement Award from the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association, among other awards.
