196 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS Drawing upon over 20 years of expertise in engineering and design, Delaine Stark Spilsbury worked with high tension power lines between 1960 and 1980, where she served as an engineering designer. Over the course of her career, she designed utility and electrical power transmission lines, as well as substations at a Nevada test site. She notes that her work in the engineering field has been among her most gratifying achievements. Upon the closure of the test site, Ms. Spilsbury returned to Ely, Nevada, where she has since served as the owner of a retail business in her postretirement years. To note, she has been the owner of a business selling authentic Native American handcrafted merchandise and jewelry, for which she has seen much success. Additionally, she has been a board member of the Great Basin Water Network and a member of the board of directors of the Great Basin National Heritage Area for over 30 years. As a native Nüwa tribe member, she has always exhibited a passion for preserving her native tribal lands, thereby prompting her to join the Great Basin Water Network to counter the activity of the local government piping water to Las Vegas. In light of her excellence in her field, Ms. Spilsbury received the Volunteerism Work Award and the Excellence in Grants Award, both from the Nevada Commission on Tourism. Outside of her primary endeavors, she enjoys several avocational activities, including collecting native baskets and historic jewelry, as well as target and field archery.
