Tavrow has excelled as the founder and chief executive officer of BJ Tavrow Consulting in New York City, where she serves as a nonprofit consultant. In her myriad of roles, she provides strategic planning, studies and board development services for several nonprofit organizations, including Reach Out and Read, Let’s Get Ready and the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, as well as manymuseums and research facilities at universities and institutions. Ms. Tavrow draws upon more than 30 years of expertise in her field, through which she focuses her attention on strengthening nonprofit organizations’ financial stability and developing fundraising programs for each nonprofit with which she has been affiliated. At the inception of her career in the 1980s, she served as an independent fundraising consultant for such entities as the San Francisco Symphony, the American Technion Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, among many others. In 2003, Ms. Tavrow also founded Tavrow|Lund Consulting LLC, where she served until 2015 and demonstrated her excellence in establishing capital and endowment campaigns throughout the fields of education, medicine, and arts and entertainment. To prepare for her career, Ms. Tavrow received a BA in English and sociology from the University of California Berkeley, followed by an MA in secondary education from San Jose State University. Among the many highlights of her career, she is especially proud of creating an alternative school in Westchester County in the 1980s, through which students from various public high schools could attend. Her alternative school became a model that was emulated by 15 other public high schools in New York, which became known as the Program for Inquiry Involvement in Independent Study. She has also lent her expertise to the advancement of research in immunology. In accounting for her success, Ms. Tavrow credits her tenacity for accomplishing all her clients’ goals. Looking forward, she would like to work with additional nonprofit organizations whose missions are to develop educational equity and increase access to education for underserved communities.
