After earning a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in English language and literature from Harvard University in 1976, Dr. Palmieri went on to matriculate at Brown University, where he earned a Master of Arts and a PhD in 1984 in the same field, specializing in American literature and film and writing a dissertation on film director Sam Peckinpah. Additionally, to support his career, Dr. Palmieri was a member of the Modern Language Association. Outside of his primary endeavors, Dr. Palmieri has been passionate about film production since his high school years. He co-produced a 15-minute horror film, “Redneck”; a feature-length documentary, “The Poets from Planet X”; and a short comedy, “Dick’s Last Shoot.” In five years’ time, Dr. Palmieri hopes to complete and publish his book, the first in English about a great and influential filmdirector, titled “Power andRevolution: Surveying andTracking the Films of Miklós Jancsó.” Dr. Rory Palmieri has accrued several decades of experience as a writer and translator. Previously, he served as a translator and reporter for the U.S. Department of Defense from 1985 to 1999, during which time he learned seven new languages, all but two on his own, and worked a total of nine languages altogether. He holds government certifications in French, German, Modern Greek, Bulgarian and SerboCroatian. To date, he has learned 17 languages. While serving in the Defense Department, Dr. Palmieri provided information to other federal government departments, the White House and various intelligence agencies. Prior to his tenure with the government, Dr. Palmieri taught freshman writing, literature and film courses at his alma mater, Brown University, and also worked as a manager at the Acme Court Reporting Company in Washington, D.C. Following his resignation from government service, he worked as a translator for an independent contractor and later assisted in the production of audiobooks for the visually impaired, which was a Library of Congress project at Potomac Talking Book Services.
