While she held experience in biomedical research, she desired to do something different and innovative, leading her to study earthquakes in California. In addition, Ms. Muhammad was inducted into MBRS-RISE in 2009, where she was mentored by Dr. Christine Holman. Ms. Muhammad attributes much of her success to her drive and her curiosity to continually learn throughout her life. To remain abreast of developments to her field, she maintains professional affiliation with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, as well as Alpha Lambda Delta and Sigma Delta Tau. Always striving to further her knowledge, she is currently studying in her discipline to gain a specialty in microbiology. In her spare time, Ms. Muhammad enjoys studying astrology, kickboxing and knitting. A certi f ied medical technologist and laboratory scientist, Kaliyma L. Muhammad has excelled in her field for over a decade while seeking to gain further expertise to improve the field of laboratory services. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in biology from Morgan State University in 2012, she worked as a clinical laboratory technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore through 2013. The following year, Ms. Muhammad went on to attend medical laboratory school at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where she remained on staff and was soon appointed senior medical technologist, where she continues to excel today. In her role, she oversees the competency aspect in her laboratory, ensures that the staff are properly trained and assesses various functions for quality control. Finding much success in her professional endeavors, Ms. Muhammad was honored with an award for earthquake research at the Southern California Earthquake Center’s Annual KALIYMA L.
