Ellsworth, ME Millennium Magazine Featured Listee ED DEWITT Supported by over 65 years of expertise in the fields of law enforcement, government and transportation, Ed DeWitt has excelled as the financial director of Downeast Transportation, Inc., in Ellsworth, Maine, since 1988. Earlier in his career, he served the City of Ellsworth as postmaster between 1957 and 1988. He commenced his vocation in 1955 as a police officer for the Ellsworth Police Department, serving in his role for two years. Likewise, Mr. DeWitt is a military veteran, having served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. DeWitt attributes much of his success to serendipitous circumstances, having always worked with terrific and talented individuals during the course of his career. In addition, he credits his ability to serve in his positions to the best of his ability, having always exhibited a diligent work ethic. He notes that this value was instilled in him by his father, who also emphasized the importance of loyalty. In light of his achievements and longstanding tenure in several professions, Mr. DeWitt was presented with a Plaque of Appreciation from the State of Maine in 2021 to commemorate his 90th birthday. Interested in serving in the military during the Vietnam War, Lionel Edwards passed an examination for the United States National Guard and was relocated to the mainland United States for training. Notably, Mr. Edwards successfully served the National Guard as a general maintenance and production specialist for 26 years, ultimately retiring from the military in 2006. Alongside his military tenure, he has also excelled as the operator of Hollywood Taxi & Tour in the Virgin Islands since 1985. Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Edwards served as vice chairman of the Singapore Federation of Taxis for four years, as well as the secretary of the Singapore Airport Taxi Association for two years. Among his many career achievements, he is especially proud of his time in the National Guard and having the honor of driving the current president of the Virgin Islands to the Island of Saint Croix while he was a senator. Looking toward the future, Mr. Edwards intends to eventually discontinue his taxi business and ease into a well-deserved retirement.
