242 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY Before he received his doctorate in 2020, Dr. Don Elijah Eckhart had already fulfilled many goals. First desiring to work in government, he received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science, magna cum laude, from Capital University in 1972. He then went on to receive a Master of Public Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. After working with various local governments, he joined the Ohio Legislative Service Commission as division chief between 1986 and 2004. The Ohio Legislative Service Commission is a nonpartisan agency serving the Ohio General Assembly. During his tenure, he was invited to give the opening prayer for the Ohio Senate several times. Dr. Eckhart received the Legislative Staff Achievement Award from the National Conference of State Legislatures in 2002. Retiring from his fulltime government position in 2004, he served as a part-time instructor for the Ohio Certified Public Manager Program at The Ohio State University and Ohio University between 2005 and 2008. Dr. Eckhart pursued additional education by earning a Master of Arts in Christian theology in 2013 and a doctorate in 2020, both from Ashland Theological Seminary. Drawing upon his passion for theological study and practice, Dr. Eckhart authored the book “Jesus the Everlasting Hope of Humankind” through Wipf & Stock Publishers in 2018. Looking forward, he intends to use his book to communicate with theologians and churches. Likewise, he would like his doctoral dissertation to be a resource. To wit, his dissertation discussed the theology of eternal punishment, which has not substantially changed since the time of Augustine in the 5th century. Dr. Eckhart believes that updated theology using the original New Testament language, Greek, is needed to comprehend God's potential purposes through Scripture. Outside of his primary work, Dr. Eckhart has sponsored children through World Vision since 1975 and donates to Food for the Hungry, Habitat for Humanity, Prison Fellowship and other charities. In addition, helping needy individuals directly has beenmost gratifying. He and his wife sold their home to a Ukrainian church, sponsoring a Ukrainian family with nine children. DR.
