245 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY U.S. government’s biodefense operations and procedures and advises on various strategies to prevent, deter, prepare for, detect, respond to, attribute, recover from and mitigate biological events that may threaten the U.S. Her work and that of the Commission led to the development of a national biodefense strategy, the requirement for which was signed into law by former President Barack Obama, produced for the first time by the Trump Administration and revised by the Biden Administration. Earlier, Dr. George served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army for four years prior to her pursuing a doctoral degree. She earned a BA in natural sciences from Johns Hopkins University in 1987, followed by an MSPH in parasitology and laboratory practice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. Nine years later, she earned a DrPH in public health policy from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1997. She went on to serve such facilities as the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, the Association of Public Health Laboratories, and the Committee on Homeland Security with the U.S. House of Representatives, among others. In light of her outstanding feats in biodefense and national security, Dr. George has been honored with the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and Southwest Asia Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star. She received a Federal Bureau of Investigation certificate of appreciation, a National Asian and Pacific American Organization Award for Service and a Health Care Finance Administration Immunization Achievement Award. She serves on several boards and committees for various organizations, including the International SPY Museum, the National Academies of Science and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. She was also honored to work on the Biden-Harris Transition Team. Specializing in national security, intelligence and public health, Dr. Asha M. George has been recognized extensively for her work in strengthening U.S. national security. Joining the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense in Washington, D.C., in 2014, she has excelled as their executive director since 2016.
