BIGONGIARI, CRNA A certified nurse anesthetist, Mary J. Bigongiari has excelled as the owner of MB Anesthesia Services, Inc., since 1992. Over the years, she also served as chief anesthetist at St. Anthony Hospital and Louise Burg Hospital, as well as other related positions with St. Mary Nazareth, Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital and Lakeside VA Hospital. Additionally, she has been a CPR instructor through the American Red Cross, a guest lecturer at the Air Force Flight Nurse School at Brooks Air Force Base, a consultant to the surgeon general on flight nursing in Washington, D.C., and a flight nurse instructor at Scott Air Force Base. A member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the American Heart Association, she has also been active with the American Diabetes Association and the Chicago Area Running Association. Ms. Bigongiari earned a BSN from Loyola University Chicago in 1967 and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she served to the rank of lieutenant colonel and was decorated with a Commendation Medal. She later achieved a MS at the University of California San Francisco in 1972, followed by a diploma in anesthesia from Rush University in 1978. Exemplifying diversity in dual career paths in military service and medicine, Mandi M. Capron served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserves, excelling between 2005 and 2016 before her honorable discharge. During her tenure, she liaisedwith Army personnel, supervised laboratory staff, and oversaw blood drives for wounded soldiers. Notably, she was recognized with distinction for her work during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from the University at Buffalo in 1998, Ms. Capron has served as a medical technologist with UM Upper Chesapeake Health since 2009. As a medical technologist, she analyzes tests in the areas of chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology and bacteriology, among other areas, as well as assesses blood samples for transfusions. She maintains membership with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Among her many career achievements, Ms. Capron is especially proud of her tenure in the Army Reserves, as she was actively involved in campaigns that encouraged civilians to donate to service members who were serving overseas.
